Sustainable human performance, defined.

OHA Wellness is a Toronto-based sustainable human performance company. We help organizations strengthen human capacity, regulate workplace pressure and build performance that holds. This page sets out what the term means, how capacity is measured, and how a program is structured.

What is sustainable human performance?

Sustainable human performance is the ability of people and teams to deliver results over time without depleting the capacity that produced them. It treats output and recovery as one system rather than two competing priorities.

A team can hit its numbers for two quarters while losing the capacity to hit them for a third. Sustainable human performance measures both: what was delivered, and what it cost the people who delivered it.

What is human capacity in the workplace?

Human capacity is the amount of cognitive, emotional and physical load a person can carry while still making good decisions, recovering between demands, and staying in the role.

Capacity is not motivation and not resilience as a personality trait. It moves with workload design, recovery time, clarity of direction, and the number of decisions a person owns. Because it moves, it can be measured and re-measured.

What is a sustainable human performance program?

A sustainable human performance program is a structured engagement that measures a baseline, diagnoses the dominant source of load, delivers a targeted intervention, and re-measures the same indicators at 90 days.

OHA Wellness runs this sequence as the Capacity Cycle™.

  • Baseline measurement — a capacity reading across the team before anything changes
  • Load diagnosis — identifying which of the Five Loads is actually driving the strain
  • Targeted intervention — practices and workload changes matched to that load
  • Capacity building — building the habit into the team's normal week
  • 90-day re-measurement — the same indicators, measured again, so the result is defensible

What is the difference between corporate wellness and sustainable human performance?

Corporate wellness is usually a set of experiences offered to employees. Sustainable human performance is a measured program with a baseline, an intervention and a re-measurement.

Both can be useful, and OHA delivers both. The distinction matters at budget time: a wellness session is defended by attendance and sentiment, a performance program is defended by a before-and-after number.

Why do organizations invest in sustainable human performance?

Because sustained pressure shows up in business numbers before it shows up in a wellbeing survey — in turnover among experienced managers, slower decisions, avoidable errors, and the cost of replacing people who were already good at the job.

Who is sustainable human performance for?

HR, People & Culture, L&D and executive teams responsible for retention, manager effectiveness and delivery under pressure — most often in organizations of 50 to several thousand employees.

How is sustainable human performance measured?

Through a capacity baseline taken before the work starts and repeated at 90 days, alongside the operational indicators the organization already tracks, such as manager turnover, absence and internal mobility.

OHA does not publish predicted outcomes for an engagement before the baseline exists. The baseline is the measurement; everything after it is compared to it.

Where this is applied

Sustainable human performance is the frame. The pages below are the working parts: the method that sequences an engagement, the framework that names the load, and the programs built on top of them.
